What are Health Disparities?

Health disparities are the differences in health status between different groups. We measure these gaps in many ways, through ideantifying
1. New cases of a disease
2. Number of people, overall, with a disease (prevalence)
3. Deaths from a disease
4. Access to prevention, screening & treatment services
5. Increased burdens a disease causes
6. Other health markers

Factors such as income, education, and residential environment intensify (and have a high correlation with) these disparities. Such disparities can be reduced when a society as a whole aggressively addresses the above-mentioned factors; confronts biases, including those against race, religion, sexual identity and immigrants; and values the ability to work with diverse peoples and promotes the health and well-being of all its communities.
