Name of Organization/Institution: Cambridge Health Alliance – Volunteer Health Advisor Program

Keywords: Immigrant Health; Patient Navigation

Description of best practice: The Volunteer Health Advisor Program recruit and train volunteers from churches and community organizations and after being trained volunteers would do health education in the communities including importance of primary health care, health access and insurance options. They serve Haitian, Black, Latino/Spanish, Brazilian and Portuguese speakers.

This program works well because of church charging support and community members trust their own in terms of receiving health education. From July 2002, the first group returned 231 new patients for primary care.

This program is funded through private foundations.
