Description of best practice: This locally developed program is called Save a Life. Heart and stroke community education is a “101” presentation around CVD and stroke; what it is; what are the risk factors; what behaviors can you do to reduce risk; when to call – who to tell for help “chain of survival”.

This is connected to a nationally developed program: Search Your Heart – a six module program developed for the faith – based community with how to coordinate guide covering topics: CVD, stroke, diabetes, stress, nutrition, physical activity and advocacy (Can also be done in community settings). A Spanish version is also available. Both programs can be presented to community audiences. We have trained presenters for SAVE A LIFE including 96 BU Medical students who speak a variety of languages.

The American Heart Association is funded directly through public support (contributions, special events, etc.) and indirectly through federated fund-raising organizations and unassociated and non-federated fund-raising organizations.
